I needed to pop in to say thanks for sticking with me. I have some shows coming up this summer, some with my group The Flood, some with my rock band One If By Land and some Solo. Check out the “Tour” section to see where I'm currently scheduled to play.

With a bathroom renovation behind us and having just come out of playing The Riverside Music Festival for 2023 I'm enjoying the weather.

I hope you all have a Happy 4th of July. If you're local and close to my hometown here in Meadville, PA I'll be doing a gig this Friday 6/30/23 @ Lucantino's Trattoria and then on 7/1/23 I'll be headed to Conneaut, OH to play at Buccia Vineyard.

I hope to see you all this summer. I've been writing a lot of new songs, and I know I keep saying it, but this new record is going to get started here very soon. I'm notorious for having about 5 irons in 10 fires.

By the way, we lost a great author in Cormac McCarthy. My favorite. If you haven't had a chance to read his novels and like Westerns, I'd recommend the Border Trilogy which starts with “All the Pretty Horses" and if you prefer some deep thoughtful spooky writings that at times require multiple passes Stella Maris, Blood Meridian, Suttree or hell… any of em. You may have seen No Country For Old Men, The Road, The Counselor (Screenplay he was involved in) and others.. Don't watch the movie All The Pretty Horses, they did a bad job of it, read the book.

Blevins.

Big love,

Fred
Fred Oakmantag:fredoakman.com,2005:Post/69972192022-06-19T11:08:22-04:002022-06-19T11:08:22-04:00Riverside Music Fest 2022
Happy Father's Day to all of the Father's out there today. I hope you all have been doing well.

My rock band ONE IF BY LAND are wrapping up recording for our 3rd full-length album and as soon as that is finished we begin the new Fred Oakman album. I'm real excited this time around.

I know I've written about the "upcoming" album several times and if you're a musician, you know... Deadlines keep getting pushed out due to circumstances beyond our control. Needless to say, we have a great list of songs to record and can't wait to share them all with you.

As far as upcoming concerts this summer you can always head over to my website or use the Bands in Town app and give me a follow. I consistently update that with concert dates.

I'm excited to bring The Flood and be returning to the Riverside Music Festival in Cambridge Springs, PA on Saturday June 25th. We will be performing at 4:30 p.m. As an unexpected treat... my other band ONE IF BY LAND (mentioned above) will be performing at 8:15 p.m. later that evening.

Quick schedule of upcoming dates:

6/25/22 | (w/ The Flood) @ Riverside Music Festival | Cambridge Springs, PA
7/01/22 | (w/ The Flood) @ Edinboro Lake Resort | Edinboro, PA
7/02/22 | (w/ The Flood) @ Buccia Vineyard | Conneaut, OH
7/15/22 | @ Big Rail Brewing | Grove City, PA
7/16/22 | (w/ The Flood) @ Presque Isle Winery's Winedown Fest | Erie, PA
7/24/22 | @ Five & 20 Spirits and Brewing | Westfield, NY
7/29/22 | @ Edinboro Lake Resort | Edinboro, PA
8/07/22 | @ Riverside Brewing Company | Cambridge Springs, PA
(cont... www.fredoakman.com)

I'm looking to get some more T'shirts / Merch to make and intend to give the web-store a nice refresh. I have some Vinyl Records remaining on the store, not a lot, but some. If you missed out on it you can get yourself a copy while supplies last. I'm not sure I'll repress it again.

If there's any specific merchandise you'd like to see outside of the normal stuff like Shirts, Koozie's, Stickers, CD's... give me a holler and run it by me. I'm always interested in new ideas.

Thanks again for all of the support.

I'll see you down the road,

-Fred
Fred Oakmantag:fredoakman.com,2005:Post/69412752022-04-05T20:43:55-04:002022-04-05T20:47:00-04:00Seasons
It's super nice when the season changes and the weather starts warming up! That being said I haven't updated this site in a while with any updates and that's primarily because I've been busy with my other project ONE IF BY LAND. We're currently recording our 3rd full-length rock album and it's been a long process so far.

More good news, the songs for my follow up record to "My Gasoline Heart" are all but recorded. So the heavy lifting for the has been done. As soon as OIBL is done in the studio, my new record will begin. I've been teasing it a bit since last year and unfortunately time seems to pass by faster and faster so it is increasingly more difficult to seize the moment.

I've intentionally booked fewer shows this summer with plans on spending more time getting the record done. Hopefully that's a decision I don't end up regretting but for now I believe it's the right call.

In the meantime I started demoing some tracks and they are "One Take Jake's" as I call 'em. I didn't do any re-recording or whatever but I did set up a camera and made sure there was a splash of shine to the performance through my audio interface. If you're curious to hear a couple new ones. Links below:

My summer performances are posted on the site here so if you get a chance, I'd love to see you.

Keep safe, keep well, keep moving forward.

Talk soon!
Fred Oakmantag:fredoakman.com,2005:Post/65243792021-01-18T19:38:53-05:002021-01-18T20:42:13-05:00New Music Incoming!
It'd be an outright lie to say that 2020 was an easy year for any of us. I took advantage of the quarantine in the best way I knew how. With my dear friend Donny Consla, I began to put together a different kind of music release. We had talked about working on a split release for quite some time, but 2020 seemed like the best time to get the proverbial ball rolling, and boy did it ever roll.

For those uncertain what a Split Release is, it's many things. To me though, personally, it's an opportunity. An opportunity to write music that is just a little bit out of my wheelhouse, also to work on music production and to challenge myself. I had some ideas, I had some melodies, thoughts... This was an opportunity to share my love of music with another musician and to cooperatively work through the process together. Don't get me wrong, a lot of that was also done on my previous album "My Gasoline Heart". There just seems to be something a little different though about bringing an "outsider" in and sharing the workflow with them. It's an opportunity to learn, an opportunity to grow as a musician.

I've known Donny for quite some time, there's even video evidence of him coming to punk rock shows from back in the day watching me play it out over loud Marshall amps and overheating PA systems. He's been a supporter of all of my music endeavors and on top of that he's been a great friend. He plays in a group called Sunday at the Station. You may have heard of them. Donny and I have been kicking this idea around for quite some time now.

Back to it, what is a Split Release? Essentially, at the root of it, one musician and/or band puts music on one side of a record and another musician and/or band puts music on the other side of the same record. This is done for many reasons: Cost Sharing, Cross Promotion, and Friendships to name a few. For us it was mainly the friendship thing, though I have to be honest, the cross promotion and cost sharing was a nice bonus.

I'm a fan of Vinyl records. I love the idea of a person sitting down and holding album artwork in their hands, reading lyric sheets and not skipping over tracks. Vinyl has made a bit of a comeback over the last few years. It's never been exactly the most affordable option for independent musicians though.

The first task that we had to figure out was HOW were we to release this Split EP on Vinyl without losing tons of money in the process? We spent days and days texting back and forth, searching out different Vinyl Pressing plants, weighing the numbers and no matter which way we rolled the dice, we were going to come up short. The losses would be too great, especially during this time of economic depravity.

With only 4 songs it was going to be a tough sell. How do we get our fans / friends to spend $20 on a record with 4 songs? So we thought, we dug, we did more research. Trying to find ways to reduce the price tag. Unfortunately, the sad truth is that art costs money to make and the society we live in now near demands we give it away for free.

We kept digging. We stumbled onto a privately ran company called "Little Elephant Custom Vinyl" based out of Ohio. They make Custom Lathe Cut short-run Vinyl Records. They are one of the few places that we found who could churn out fantastic stereo lathe cut records. Okay great. Problem solved! Well.... not exactly.

The initial plan was to do a 7" 45RPM Vinyl Release, 4 songs. Me on one side, he on the other. Traditional.

Unfortunately, the length of our songs made this impossible. We weighed our options yet again. We figured let's go all out and do a 12" Vinyl release so we can have big tangible artwork. We'll put all of the tracks on the same side, forcing the listener to listen to the songs, alternating between two of us. Now we were onto something. But... we have a little more space on this record now that we're doing a 12" Vinyl.

So I rang up Donny on the phone and proffered that we co-write a song and cap the release with a 5th track. Something brand new and original that nobody had heard before. He agreed and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous. Regardless, long story short, a new track co-written by both myself and Donny titled "Save Me the Corners" came to be as a result of this project, and we couldn't be more thrilled to share it with everyone.

So now we figured if we're putting on a 5th song, we need to go all out with the artwork. We contacted Scott Stearns from The Lost Trail Press to see if he could help us come up with a great design. Now we're doing original local Screen Printed 12" Vinyl Record Jackets. Scott didn't disappoint. The Jacket Design for this split is fantastic and Scott knocked it out of the park. All that was left was a lyric insert and maybe some other nice little touch...

The lyric insert came out nice and anybody lucky enough to get one of these limited edition Vinyl Records will be getting a hand signed lyric insert with both our scribbly names. On top of the signed lyric insert, we wanted to do even a little more. We went the extra mile and the blank B side of this clear, yes I said clear, Vinyl record will have a screen print of additional artwork done by Scott at Lost Trail Press.

The album is going to come with a free digital download of the songs as well ( the code will be included in the record when you receive it).

The last Pre-Order I did was a bit messy, I'll admit that. I'm the kind of person though that learns at each iteration. So this time, the pre-order for this Vinyl will be announced only after the records are in hand and ready to be shipped. We ask that once it goes live, that you give us 5 days to get it in the mail for you.

The reason we're doing a pre-order is that we want to give everybody interested in obtaining a Vinyl Record a fair chance at ordering one. Again, there will only be 30 copies made. Once they are gone, they are gone. This record will cost $20 and you may only order one record per person.

Due to the potential influx of anticipated orders when the pre-order goes live, I want you all to know that there is a possibility that stock will deplete and your order may still go through. If that happens we will refund your money.

I am excited as all get out to finally have a Split Vinyl record with Donny and I really hope you're as excited as we are. We have put a lot of tender love and care into this release. From the writing, to the recording, to the planning, to the artwork to the little bells and whistles.

Please keep an eye out for updates and please join the mailing list on the front page. Follow me on Instagram and Facebook to be sure you are notified when the pre-order is going to go live.

If you miss out on the Pre-Order you will still be able to purchase the songs as a digital download for the first couple months after release. This collection of songs is intentionally being delayed to streaming platforms in an effort to encourage people to purchase the music directly from the artists involved.

All the best, all the love, always,

I recently recorded 2 tracks for an upcoming split record with my friend Donny Consla. We're kicking around the idea of releasing the split on a 7" Lathe Cut Vinyl. The catch is that due to the cost of making Vinyl Records these days we'll most likely be selling them for $10 - $12 just to break even on the production costs. Depending on the amount of people who would be interested in picking up a record, that price of course could decrease. It'll be limited run for sure but I created a Survey to gauge interest. Would you want to add this to your collection? Is the price point worth it to you? I come from an era of 7" Records costing about $3.00 but that time has long since come and gone. Productions costs are up and it's an unfortunate time we're living in right now. It's a bit of risk on our end, which we're willing to do, but first we just want to gauge a little bit of interest.

I wanted to take a minute to let everybody know how much I appreciate their support this year. I'm calling in The Flood to begin recording my follow up record to "My Gasoline Heart" while we're all quarantined. I also excited to announce I've been working on another little project that I'll be announcing soonish so keep dialed in and checking back.

Don't forget I've got merchandise for sale on the store and it'd make great presents for the Holiday! This season (Halloween / October) has to be my favorite. It's got me in the creative mood and I can't wait to start crafting the new sounds for the record.

With that being said, I hope you're well. I hope to see you soon.

My friend Rachel Travis drew the Hawk Design and I couldn't be more stoked for it. Also added to the store are 12 oz. Koozie's for Fred Oakman & The Flood. I hope you dig them. I wanted something that felt like fall. These colors are rad in my opinion.

I don't have much more to say at the moment but I do know that I've been working on recording 2 songs for a special release that I'll be following up with you all about when the time is right. Until then, I hope to see some of you at one of my last 3 shows this year. Be safe, social distance and keep on shredding.

I just wanted to give a quick heads up to everybody about the final shows I have booked here in 2020. Typically I'm booked through the end fo the year literally, but there are only 3 more in the books for 2020. They are as follows:

9/05/2020 | Fred Oakman and The Flood @ Edinboro Lake Resort | Edinboro, PA

9/18/2020 | Fred Oakman and The Flood @ Buccia Vineyard | Conneaut, OH

9/27/2020 | Fred Oakman (Solo) @ Edinboro Lake Resort | Edinboro, PA

I'm excited to tie things off on 9/27/2020 with a more intimate set, but I do hope to see you all out at one of these. I thank you for your continued support and as an FYI I will have my new T-Shirts and 12 .oz Koozie's for sale at these concerts.

The site will be updated soon to feature the new merchandise.

On a somewhat side note I am honored to be nominated and selected for Erie's 40 under 40 for 2020 along with some other very motivated individuals. The Erie Reader has nice little writeup about my shenanigans over the years and I'm grateful to have people so supportive of what I'm doing. I just wanted to take a minute to say that the performance with The Flood that was previously scheduled on 6/5/2020 at the Riverside Brewing Company in Cambridge Springs, PA has been canceled. The Cambridge Music Festival had been canceled as well. The promoter tried to work with us despite the festival being canceled but due to scheduling conflicts we just couldn't make it happen. We'll make it up to you!

However, I will be doing a 3 hour solo performance at The Riverside Brewing Company on 6/6/2020 from 4 PM - 7 PM. I would like you all to remember that I am an advocate for Social Distancing during this pandemic as is the Riverside Brewing Company.

Just because we are now a Green County does not mean that the virus all of a sudden has disappeared. I do not want to put anybody at risk so do not feel obligated to attend and if you do, please continue to stay clean and distance yourself from others. If you feel sick at all please do not attend. There is no excuse for people remain ignorant to the safety of others during this Pandemic.

With that out of the way, I can't begin to tell you how excited I am to get out of the house and perform in front of some real people!

If you are comfortable, I hope to see you Saturday!

To Quote one of my favorite bands, Hot Water Music. "We'll sing our hearts in unity. That we won't obey or follow hate. We Stand Together. We Stand with No Division. And the ways of old will be swept away."

Stay Vigilant.
Fred Oakmantag:fredoakman.com,2005:Post/62885082020-04-20T20:32:16-04:002020-04-20T20:35:13-04:00Five & 20 Jam Session Kickoff YouTube Performance
Real excited to announce I'm hosting a Jam Session Kick Off on my YouTube channel in conjunction with Five & 20 Spirits and Brewing for Five & 20 month.

The site has been updated with tour dates / concerts for this new year. There are a few concerts not announced at this time for various reasons, but there have been some updates to the concert list! I'll be re-visiting some places I was at last year and coming to some new places as well.

Be sure to continue to check back frequently.

Just as I was disappointed to announce the cancellation of my solo performance in January at Wall Street Coffee in Jefferson, I am conversely excited to announce Fred Oakman and The Flood will be performing our first show for 2020 in Franklin, PA at RBandana / Vinos and Vibes on 2/8/2020! I hope to see you there.

Additionally, I have spoken with the pressing facility responsible for the "My Gasoline Heart" Vinyl record and they are scheduled to ship out this week. As soon as I get them, I'll be putting them in the mail for all who have placed orders. Let's cross our fingers and hope that no unforeseen circumstances occur that would cause any additional delay.

Until next time, stay warm and we'll see you soon!

I've sent e-mails to all who have ordered it in advance, but to those who are looking to pick it up for Christmas or as a gift, they will not be shipping before New Years.
It's an exciting day! The Preorder for the new album is finally up and running! I've put links up all over social media to help you find your way there. This has been a really busy and exciting project and if we hit any roadblocks along the way or if you see that maybe something isn't working correctly, please head over to my website www.fredoakman.com and use the contact form and send me a message!

With that being said, my upcoming full length record, My Gasoline Heart will be released on 10/25/19!

Right now I'm taking pre-orders for physical and digital versions of the album. The focus for me at the moment will be taking the Vinyl and CD Preorders because I'm going to have to make sure that when the time is right everything gets into the mail and you all get your 12" Vinyl Records and CD's timely!

Because I'm running the Preorder through Bandcamp.com I can orchestrate my Preorder so that everybody who orders the album in advance (between now and 10/25/19) will receive early access to the download of the song "Something New".

All Vinyl and CD Preorders will ship with a Pin Pack which contains five 1.5" Buttons/Pins and a Die Cut "Fred Oakman and The Flood" Vinyl Sticker! If you pre-order the digital version of the record unfortunately you won't be getting any of these bonus items, however, you will still get the early download of the song "Something New"!

With that being said, running a Preorder is a way for me to help mitigate the upfront costs associated with releasing an album. Don't worry, it's already paid for but a Preorder helps me negotiate some of that financial overhead and it's a relatively simple way for you guys/girls to show your appreciation.

If you want to wait until 10/25/19 to purchase a copy for yourself, that is absolutely okay with me as well! If you don't want a copy (ahem...) that's obviously totally fine also!

I just wanted to send this out to inform everybody that the Preorder is LIVE and if you want to make sure to secure yourself a copy of the physical album/cd it's a great way to do just that while supporting my music. I love that streaming music is a thing nowadays and I love how accessible most music is, but if I' being completely honest purchasing the record whether it's an actual Vinyl Record, Compact Disc or a Digital Download is the best and easiest way to support your favorite Musicians.

The gears have already been turning about what I'm going to do for my next release. It's going to be exciting!

Please don't be stranger, say hi at the concerts! Speaking of which, I am assembling the aveng... The Flood for a CD Release Show on 10/25/19 in my hometown of Meadville, PA and the tentative venue will be the Firehouse Tap and Grille! I'm also going to do everything I can to bring some other musicians down to open up the evening and we're going to welcome the record into this world the best way we know how!

With that being said, go take a look at the Preorder, give the song "Something New" a listen (not on your phone speakers, plug in some headphones!) by navigating to my website www.fredoakman.com and following the links to my Bandcamp site or just head directly to the Preorder location right here: http://fredoakman.bandcamp.com

Share with your friends, post the link up on your facebook, encourage people to give it a listen. I'm more than thrilled with how the album turned out and I can't wait until 10/25/19 now!

By the way... How awesome is that Album Artwork? It was drawn up by this guy: https://www.behance.net/michaelfritz (Michael Fritz) a good friend of mine.

I'll be in touch with updates.

The next show that is open to the Public is:

9/28/2019 @ Riverside Brewing in Cambridge Springs, PA | 7 - 10 pm (then afterwards I'm taking a guitar out by an outdoor bonfire and we're all going to pass it around for a while and share songs)

Click the album cover below to head straight over to the Preorder!

It's been a while since I've written. I wanted to let everybody know that the pre-order will be live relatively shortly! I

I'm having the amazing Mike Fritz work on the Album Artwork/Design and as soon as all of the artwork and layout is finalized I'll be posting the pre-order. The album is pretty much through the mixing stage! So this is exciting! Currently the goal is to have it released by the end of September 2019. Don't quote me on that though.

Hugs & Kisses to everyone who has been showing their love and support via social media and out at the shows! It's really been a fun, hot, busy summer!

I don't have a whole lot to add but keep an eye on the Tour postings on my website www.fredoakman.com. I've been burning the wick from both ends between playing out / preparing this album for release on top of writing new material for ONE IF BY LAND's 3rd Studio full-length album.

But, as they say, get it while the gettin's good so if you're in my neck of the woods here in Sunny Summer NWPA here are a few upcoming events I've got coming up:

This Friday 7/26/19 I'll be the guest singer/songwriter at Voodoo Brewery in Erie, PA. My friend Zak Orr will be performing from 5:00 to 6:30 and I'll be taking over from 6:30 - 8:00.

This Saturday 7/27/19 I'll be performing on the patio at The Firehouse Tap & Grille in my hometown of Meadville, PA alongside the great songwriter (and close friend) Josh Travis from 9 - 11 p.m.

The following Friday 8/2/19 I've been invited along with my backing band The Flood to perform at WQLN's Sounds Around Town in Erie, PA for a 1 hour performance which will eventually be broadcast and aired on WQLN TV/Radio. This event goes from 7:30 - 8:30.

Then on Saturday 8/3/19 I'm scheduled to come back to The Edinboro Lake Resort from 6:30 - 9:30 in Edinboro, PA.

I appreciate all of the videos that have surfaced on YouTube of different performances of mine and thank all who post them. What I want to do is get a few better sounding video recordings of live performances. A lot of the world uses YouTube to discover new music and/or musicians so I'm going to take the time to start recording a song every so often here in my studio and upload it to my YouTube Channel. I have limited video equipment so stick with me and try to keep a fairly open mind about it. Right now, I'm doing the editing, and it's all recorded with two microphones, an older Karma Bullet Mic and a Rode NT1-A condenser.

With that being said, I'm uploading the second video in this series today and it should be available to view below:

(Put the earbuds in or watch it on some nice speakers.)
Fred Oakmantag:fredoakman.com,2005:Post/57762372019-06-01T12:05:20-04:002019-11-30T10:56:29-05:00New Live Performance on YouTube.
I put up a quick video of my playing a newer song called Derecho on my YouTube site. Here's a link:

The truth is, I'm not. Vocals are just about finished and then I'm going to have Troy Messerall come in and we'll be working through the tracks one by one adding Lap Steel Guitar and Electric Guitar where necessary.

It's an enjoyable process to slowly watch and listen to these songs as they slowly glue together. It's equally time consuming and also a source of uneasiness somedays. Music is interesting in that way for me. I've always found a home with it, but it's repeatedly tried to evict me. I posted a video on my instagram account and will continue to do so. I spent some time down here in the studio after a long day of work trying to finish up vocals for a few songs and am satisfied to report there's a little less to do tomorrow now.

The Flood will be rehearsing in preparation for our debut at the Edinboro Art & Music Festival this Saturday at 12:00 p.m. I've officially sold my first set of stickers on the website which is exciting! I really wanted to created a space here where people could dial into what I've been up to with my music and to provide opportunities for everyone to get a little something in return for their continuous support.

I'm glad some of you found your way here.

On a side-note I had a delicious Waffle today at a local spot called Smokey Martin's. It came up in several conversations throughout the day. If you're ever in the Meadville Area, head over to Smokey Martin's and get the Belgian Waffle. It's a true treat.

Back to it! Video below.

I've got a new video of bass tracking for the album as promised! This weekend/week I'll be laying down pretty much the finishing touches on guitars/vocals. Anybody want to volunteer time to restring my guitar everyday? For all the years I've played music, I've never enjoyed stringing my guitars.

Anyhow, enjoy!

Album Update!
I'm happy to write in to announce I've got quite a few concerts coming up. Like I've mentioned before, the best way to stay updated on concerts is to frequently visit this website and/or download the Bandsintown app for your smartphone and start Tracking me as an artist.

Needless to say if you haven't had the chance to catch me out and about with The Flood, this Friday 4/19 I'll be doing a set with that outfit in Erie, PA @ Scotty's Martini Lounge. It'd be nice to see some familiar faces. 10 PM and I'm not sure whether there is a cover charge or not. Give them a call and ask if you want to know. It's 21+ so sorry kiddos!

On with other things: All drums have been tracked for the upcoming album, Jake (The Flood) Bass has one last song to track Bass for and we'll be moving onto recording additional guitar work / vocals and then finally wrapping up all the tiny nuances that make an album worth listening to afterwards. I actually have set aside a week of time to finish up all my Acoustic Guitar work and Vocals after the show on the 19th of this month.

I've been kicking around the idea of having some T-Shirts made soon, so please keep an eye out for those at upcoming concerts.

Lastly: If you haven't had the chance yet, I've got some videos up on this website that you may enjoy. As soon as Jake finishes his Bass I'll be adding another Video on the site as well for everyone.

PLEASE SIGN UP FOR THE MAILING LIST. I BEG YOU.

I haven't sent any mailings out yet but it will be my #1 way to have direct communication with anyone who is interested in what I'm doing musically.

Thanks for reading, talk to you soon!

PS My Rock Band ONE IF BY LAND Showcased a couple new songs in Pittsburgh, PA last week. Big thanks to Lauren for shooting it on her IPAD? Regardless, link below if you're interested!

Be sure to keep checking the website for updated concerts and don't forget to sign up to the e-mail list.

The goal at the moment is to release the new album on Vinyl / CD / Digital. In order to do that I might put up a Pre-Order in the near future. We're making a bit of progress in the studio and things are starting to really come to fruition.

I wanted to make sure I stress that everyone should download the app called Bands in Town. I use it pretty much exclusively to post my concerts in the wild for all to see. It's compatible with just about any mobile phone. Just find me on there and "track" me as an artist and we can meet up at a show of mine this summer.

I appreciate the continued support, I'm playing with The Flood this Saturday in our hometown and put together a pretty nice flyer/poster for the occasion.

Hope to catch you all there!

It's time to put up or shut up. Over the years I've written and accumulated a lot of songs. Like, an honest to God lot of music. I'm not just talking about all of the Rock `n Roll I've written over the years either. I've got countless iPhone demo's taking up more memory on my 5s than I can justify.

If you're reading this, you've found me.

Music.

It's what I love to do. I've been picking and strumming away between concerts, between workdays, through weekends and even after most of you are sound asleep. It has always been my counter punch to the stress. I've been blessed to have shared the stage many times with close friends who are still living within the proverbial stones throw. Saying we've cut it up a few times would be a wild understatement. Additionally, when you've done it for as long as I have, you truly forget how not to.

I've had some incredible high points in my music career so far, and a few jarring let downs. That's the rough road, that's the tread, that's the game. Despite the bad breaks and life affirming highs, I've somehow kept a mind to keep strumming a guitar.

Over the past 5 years I've made mention of recording another album but struggled with the critic inside. Songs weren't coming together quite the way I wanted, and by the time I felt good about them I had already moved on to the next. I took the Winter/Summer of 2017 to build a safe space for my music and for my craft. With primarily most of the help coming from my father, and some from close friends, I used what limited knowledge I carried to build a home studio / music room. It started as cinder block, cement floors with HVAC running across the ceiling and is now a real room complete with acoustic panels, studio equipment and seeping with inspiration.

With that being put out there, I spent most of 2018 contemplating how to tackle this record.

How does one whittle down over 30 songs to release on a 10 song album? Not only that, how does one take songs written over 10 years ago and refresh them and make them feel alive again? In all of my previous projects as soon as we had enough songs to cut a record... we did. With this stuff it was somehow much more difficult to make that decision.

I'll tell you what, it's not easy. At least it wasn't for me.

I kicked around the idea of bringing some friends in on these songs I had been writing/accumulating and we began rehearsing them in the winter of 2017. I think we've got something special here. Welcome The Flood.

Fred Oakman and The Flood
From Left to Right: Nate Kuhn (Drums), Troy Messerall (Electric and Lap Steel), Fred Oakman (Vocals/Acoustic), Jacob Peters (Bass)

If you know me, you know I don't like to do things half-assed. It has to be all or nothing. This is the reason I couldn't release any music in the last 5 years or so. I felt really good about my 5 song EP "The God Fearing Boy" and didn't want the follow up release to be anything less than what I had already accomplished.

I'm entirely confident now that what we've tapped into is worthy of a true release. The writing, rewriting, and laboring over these songs has been no easy feat but I'm pretty much at the finish line now.

I've now accumulated enough people on my side to support me with the multitude of moving parts required to put out a good album.

With this new shiny website I'm here to tell you, it has started and quite a bit of tracking has already occurred. It'll be released this summer. 10 tracks and 5 years in the making.

I'm really looking forward to sharing this record with everyone.

xoxoxo
